- Work Instructions are documents that clearly and precisely explains the right way to perform specific tasks that may cause trouble or damage if not done conventionally. That is, describe, dictate or instruct the steps that must be followed to perform any specific activity or work correctly.
- Skills gap analysis is a tool you can use to determine what gaps exist between employees’ existing skills and those skills required to execute the Six Sigma Project.

3 steps to a successful skills gap analysis
1. Identify the skills needed—and the level of proficiency required.
- The first step is to figure out which skills are needed to execute your Six Sigma project. Consider both the technical and soft skills you’ll need to execute the project.
- The best way to do this is to list all the activities required to be performed.
- This could be Defining the Problem, creating a process map, GRR analysis, Analyze the problem, Brainstorming
- Once you have a list of required skills, note the desired skill level for each critical skill (e.g., basic, intermediate, advanced).
2. Measure existing skills.
- The current skill level measurement can be done by conducting formal exam interacting with respective managers, business Leaders & experienced Six Sigma Leaders.
3. Address skills gaps.
- Training, mentoring, which method you use depends on current team competencies.
4. Mentoring
- If your team members have the desired skills but need to advance their competence, mentoring might be an excellent option for you.
- Connect team members with senior Six Sigma Professionals who can help them hone and develop the desired Lean Six Sigma skills.
5. Training
The project's success depends on how well the team members are trained to the required competence levels. To ensure the project's success, formal Yellow Belt/Green Belt training, as well as Six Sigma skills and project management skills, are required.
